Calvin L. Stevenson
Deltech Furnaces mourns the loss of our founder, Calvin L. Stevenson.
Calvin L. Stevenson served as Deltech’s Chairman of the Board and Technical Director until his death on February 16, 2016.
Born August 2nd, 1930 in Anaconda, Montana to Calvin Stevenson and Olga Miller Stevenson. He died on February 16, 2016 in Denver, Colorado, his home for over 50 years.
He graduated from the Montana School of Mines in 1954 with a B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering despite having lost both legs in an industrial accident on the Anaconda Smelter. He went on to earn his Master of Science from Mines (now known as Montana Tech) in Metallurgical Engineering in 1960.
He worked for the Anaconda Company in Butte Montana and Grants New Mexico and for Allis Chalmers in Milwaukee Wisconsin before becoming Director of Research for Mine and Smelter Supply in Denver, Colorado.
In 1968 he cofounded Deltech, Inc., a company which is now a thriving family owned manufacturer of laboratory and production furnaces serving materials science researchers and industrial ceramics manufacturers around the world. After retiring due to ill health, he continued to serve as the company’s Technical Director and Chairman of the Board until his death.
Cal was the recipient of a Distinguished Alumni award from Montana Tech in 1998, given to Montana Tech graduates for outstanding contributions to their profession. The following year he was selected for inclusion on the Anaconda High School Wall of Fame for, in the words of a staff writer for the Anaconda Leader, “serving as an example of the best of character and accomplishment”.
He was preceded in death by his infant son Donald, brother Don Stevenson, sister Elizabeth (“Betty”) Longo, first wife Donna Pentilla, and son Bruce Stevenson. He is survived by his sister Mary Ellen Boyer of Anaconda Montana, wife Mary, daughters Ardath White, Elise (Mike) Sherva, and Marical (Brian) Farner, son JJ (Kerstin) Stevenson, grandchildren John White, Ryan (Angel) White, Kristian Farner, Colleen Farner, Karter Stevenson, and Kellen Stevenson; and two great grandchildren Westin White and Emerson White.
