Prevent element damage due to arcing

Prevent element damage due to arcing

If your Deltech furnace is a high temperature (1500 degrees centigrade or above) model, it will likely feature molydisilicide heating elements. Regardless of the kind of connectors in use; i.e. holders and braids or buss bars, repeated thermal cycling can and will result in those connections loosening up. That creates an arcing hazard. Even if it doesn’t appear that much is happening, arcing can result in literally burning off the tops of the elements. Perhaps all you see is a tiny arc at one connection point, lasting for only a few seconds when you turn on the element power. But that is enough to damage your elements and element hardware.

We recommend that you make tightening the connections a part of your regular furnace maintenance schedule. Watch our video tutorials to see examples of arcing and to learn how to correctly install, remove, and replace your heating elements. There are six tutorials covering these important topics for two sizes of molydisilicide heating elements and both strap and holder and buss bar connection layouts.
