Congressional staff members from NIST, MEP, and several house and senate committees visited Deltech in August. NIST, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, provides funding to MEP, the Manufacturing Extension Partnership. Members of our local MEP were also in attendance.
Specifically, our visitors included representatives from NIST, the national MEP, and the House committees on Science, Space, and Technology; Research and Technology; and Investigation and Oversight. A staff member for the Senate committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation in addition to two executives from our local MEP rounded out the group.
The congressional staffers were visiting several companies in metro Denver who have benefited from their relationship with Manufacturer’s Edge, the afore mentioned Colorado MEP center. They toured our facility, learned about our products and services, the challenges we are currently facing as a small manufacturer, and how we have benefited over the years from assistance and funding from Manufacturer’s Edge.
We were introduced to Manufacturer’s Edge by our counselor from the North Metro Small Business Development Center (SBDC). Manufacturer’s Edge has since helped us obtain ISO 9001:2015 certification and the development and implementation of our ASME NQA-1: 2008 Nuclear Quality Assurance program. They provide financial support to the World Trade Center, and therefore referred us to the WTC’s Export Accelerator Program. Thanks to that training and mentoring, we have an Export Plan in place. Most recently, we contracted with Manufacturer’s Edge for SEO support from StratMg. StratMg provides search engine optimization services exclusively for manufacturers, along with other B to B services.
Most MEP services are provided at less than full cost thanks to funding from NIST and sometimes from state grants. A state grant through the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) reimbursed the cost of the Export Accelerator training program.
